Copycat Starbucks Hot Chocolate

This can easily make two cups of piping hot hot chocolate. Who doesn't love hot chocolate??

Copycat Starbucks Hot Chocolate

Makes one 16 ounce, grande size cup


  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) water
  • 2 Tablespoons (30 mL) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 Tablespoons (30 mL) granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups (360 mL) milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • whipped cream or marshmallows for garnish


Combine water, cocoa, and sugar in a 16 ounce microwave safe pitcher, such as a glass measuring cup. Microwave on high for 30 seconds or until hot. Stir well to make the chocolate syrup.

Add the milk to the chocolate mixture and microwave on high 1 to 1 1/2 minutes or until hot. Add the vanilla, stir, and pour into a 16 ounce coffee mug. Top with whipped cream or marshmallows.

*Alternatively, I add the first three ingredients to a small sauce pan and heat until bubbly. Then add the milk, stirring and warming through; add vanilla and serve.
