Copycat Subway Sweet Onion Sauce

If you love Subway's Sweet Onion Sauce, good news! it can't be easier to make it at home and use it on your favorite sandwiches. Double or triple the ingredients as needed!

Of course, the sauce pairs perfectly with the copycat version of Subway's Chicken Teriyaki sandwich. Click here for the recipe!

Note: I can't get buttermilk powder here, so I used regular milk powder and added a few more drops of lemon juice with success. It's such a small amount, so no big deal.

Copycat Subway Sweet Onion Sauce

About 2/3 cup

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (120 mL) light corn syrup
  • 1 Tablespoon (15 mL) red wine vinegar
  • 1 Tablespoon finely minced white onion
  • 2 teaspoons (10 mL) white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon buttermilk (or milk) powder
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon poppy seeds
  • A pinch of garlic powder
  • A pinch of black pepper

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a microwave safe bowl. Heat on high, uncovered, for 1 to 1.5 minutes until the mixture boils rapidly. Stir well, allow to cool, cover and chill.

*Mixture can also be boiled on the stove top in a small sauce pan.
