Homemade Catalina Dressing

Catalina dressing is one of my favorites and it is fantastic when used in a taco salad. Of course, I can't get Catalina dressing here, so I'm loving that it is so easy to make at home!

You can follow the directions below, but I for one, have no time to dig out a food processor and have another gadget to clean. My family doesn't mind the onion pieces, so I simply place all the ingredients in a plastic container, pop on the lid, and shake the dickens out of it...Mission accomplished.

Homemade Catalina Dressing

Yields 1 1/2 cups

  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) ketchup
  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) white wine vinegar
  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) onion, lightly chopped
  • 3 Tablespoons (45 mL) sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup (120 mL) canola oil (or other mild tasting oil)
  • salt and pepper, to taste

Place the first 6 ingredients in a food processor or hi-powered blender. Puree until smooth. Slowly add in the canola oil and continue to blend until smooth. Season with salt and pepper. Use or store in refrigerator for up to 3 weeks. Leftover jam jars make great dressing containers. Shake well before serving.
