Homemade Hoisin Sauce

This sauce is so easy to make, as you probably have everything on hand, and tastes fantastic when used in the cashew chicken recipe (halve the recipe below). I used to have to go clear to Zurich to find it, and then the store stopped carrying it; probably because I was the only one buying it. Anyhow, this recipe is a lifesaver and tastes great!

Homemade Hoisin Sauce

Makes a half cup of sauce

  • 4 Tablespoons (60 mL) soy sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons (30 mL) peanut butter
  • 1 Tablespoons (15 mL) honey, molasses, or brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons (10 mL) white vinegar
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 20 drops Chinese hot sauce, habenero or jalapeno
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper

Mix all ingredients well until combined. Just keep stirring!
